SMPlayer intends to be a complete front-end for Mplayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for Mplayer filters and more. One of the main features is the ability to remember the state of a played file, so when you play it later it will resume at the same point and with the same settings. SMPlayer is developed with the Qt toolkit, so it's multi-platform. An executable for Windows is also available.

The XDG Base Directory Specification for configuration files is now followed. New options to configure the floating control were added. The playlist can now work properly even if the output messages of mplayer are not in English. The check for non-video media files was improved. bashrun 0.7 (Default branch)

Bashrun is a simple application launcher for X11. It runs a bash session within a small xterm window, thus conveniently providing all the common bash features like readline, tab completion, and history. Optionally, in combination with xdotool, the terminal is kept running in the background, reducing startup time and saving system resources. A number of other common XTerminals like urxvt or mrxvt are also supported. Other features include key bindings for resizing the terminal on the fly.

Changes:
New features include running commands in a terminal, copying their output to the clipboard, setting up handler applications for certain types of strings (e.g. URLs), and adding bookmarks to bash's command completion list. Also, command line arguments have been added to control a running instance of bashrun. The config file locations now adhere to the XDG specification. Future updates will no longer require the user to recreate the configuration files.

A KDE 4 kioexec crash with deprecated xdg flags has been fixed. The preloader only set document content when a request finished; this has been fixed. Server response messages are prepared in a separate signal. There is a save current document dialog, and inspector preview with (QWebkit). An invalid text codec may have been used; now the content-type is fetched from a given document. The desktop entry opens a URL, not a single file.

Zero Install Injector 0.35 (Default branch)

The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use", etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run, using environment variables to let it find the components.

Changes:
Support for multi-arch systems, which can run both 32- and 64-bit binaries, was added. There is a workaround for a bug in xdg-desktop-menu for programs with spaces in their names. Options have been added to specify the OS and CPU type manually. The 0export command is provided to turn any Zero Install application into a self-extracting bundle.

This project is a file browser for the DeforaOS desktop. It depends only on GTK+ 2 and the DeforaOS System library. It supports browsing with multiple views, MIME type application association, and file manipulation. Enchant 1.4.0 (Default branch)

Enchant is a cross-platform abstract layer for spell-checking. It is a meta spell-checking framework. It recognizes that different languages often require radically different tools and alogrithms to spell-check and correct. It also takes into account that systems often have a radical host of spell- checking software installed. It provides a standard C API/ABI for all of its backends, while allowing multiple backends to be loaded and used at once.

Voikko (Finnish) language support. Zemberek (Turkish) language support. Better support for Unicode in the personal dictionaries. Personal dictionaries offer better suggestions. OpenOffice's dictionaries are used on Windows. Aspell works on Windows. This release can use a system-wide Hunspell/Myspell installation on Unix-like platforms. Hunspell 1.2.1 and .NET bindings are required. This release has more lax language matching rules. It uses XDG's data-dirs spec for locating dictionaries. There are many unit tests and bugfixes.

Enlightenment (window manager)

Enlightenment, also known simply as E, is a free software/open source window manager for the X Window System which can be used alone or in conjunction with a desktop environment such as GNOME or KDE. It has a rich feature set, including extensive support for themes and advanced graphics without sacrificing good performance. As such, Enlightenment is sometimes deployed as a substitute for a full desktop environment. In November 2007, global retailer Wal-Mart started selling US$200 computers based on a Linux Operating System using Enlightenment as the default window manager.

History

The first version of Enlightenment was released by Raster (Carsten Haitzler) on October 30, 1996.

Although under development for over 10 years, Enlightenment still comes always with a disclaimer warning that it's in permanent "heavy development" and remains "not stable".

The latest stable release is version 0.16.8.10.

Version 0.17, also called DR17, is currently in development and is designed to be a full-fledged desktop shell based on the new Enlightenment Foundation Libraries (EFL). DR17 is a complete rewrite from DR16, targeted toward a range of platforms from embedded systems to workstations.

Features of version 0.16

Some of its distinguishing features include:

* Its virtual desktop concept - Enlightenment allows you to have a grid of workspaces called virtual desktops. Switching between them is achieved by hurling the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen, at which the desktop appears to slide across to reveal the next. The maximum grid size is currently 8 by 8, and you can have 32 of them (each with a different background), making 2048 total possible desktop spaces. (Users can enable a map of the desktops, in case they get lost, which is called the pager.)
* The desktop dragbar - this allows a desktop to be 'slid back' to reveal the desktop 'underneath'. The E team use the analogy of sheets of paper, stacked on top of each other, where you can slide off a piece partially to reveal what's beneath.
* Window grouping - the ability to put windows into groups so that they can all be moved, resized, closed, etc. together.
* Iconification - reducing windows to an icon, stored in 'iconboxes' that can be placed about the screen.
* Ability to change window borders (or remove borders and title bars completely).
* Users can create keybindings for actions such as maximizing windows, launching programs, moving between desktops and moving the mouse cursor - hence making it possible to use Enlightenment solely with a keyboard. e16keyedit is a graphical program for simplifying keybinding creation.

One of the aims of the window manager is to be as configurable as possible, and to this end, it includes easy-to-use customization dialogs for focus settings, window movement, resizing, grouping and placement settings, audio, multiple desktop, desktop background, pager, tooltip and autoraise settings. It also includes a special effects dialog, including a desktop 'ripple' effect.

Features of version 0.17

DR17 is in active development right now, but certain core features are in place:

* Fully themeable, with both a menu-based and command line theme-changing interface.
* A built-in file manager.
* Icons on the Desktop.
* Virtual desktop grid feature.
* Modular design - can dynamically load external modules. Current available modules include:
o Pager - Switching between different virtual desktops;
o iBar - Launching applications;
o iBox - Holding minimized applications;
o Dropshadow - Provides a drop-shadow for every window;
o Clock - Analog clock;
o Battery - Monitoring your laptop battery;
o CPUFreq - Monitoring your laptop CPU;
o Temperature - Monitoring your laptop temperature;

Note that these are the official modules that are coming with Enlightenment itself. Other "unofficial" modules are also available in the project's CVS repository.

* One or more shelves to manage the gadget placement and appearance on the screen.

This is how to easy install Beryl on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty).

1. On your Desktop point your mouse to System --> Administration --> Synaptic Package Manager to open the Synaptic Package Manager.

2. On Synaptic Package Manager, click on Search button at the top. Type beryl to search.3. At column Package name, tick beryl. Its will install all package that required by beryl. For better effect for you Desktop, I recommend to install also Emerald-theme, beryl-ubuntu, and beryl-manager.4. Click Apply button to continue. The summary popup will display. Click Apply button to continue.

5. Close the Synaptic Package Manager after system finish download and install.

6. We need some extra configuration. Open your terminal and login as root. Type sudo cp /usr/share/applications/beryl-manager.desktop /usr/share/application/xdg/autostart/beryl-manager.desktop

7. After all complete, you machine need to be restart or log off. This is for all setting apply properly to your desktop.
