Swedish News site having tough time after linking to The Pirate Bay

Nyheter24 LogoNyheter24, a Swedish news site which launched almost a week ago, has been criticized for linking to The Pirate Bay. The site’s target is to get popularity specially among young readership and give tough time to other leading online news site. This is where the problem started i.e. young readers, as they have a habit of downloading whatever TV show they like. So it was very obvious for the site to include the top list of usual popular sites but also list of most downloaded TV shows on The Pirate Bay.

The current linking was not appreciated by Swedish Anti Pirate Bureau’s Henrik Pontén. He said:

We consider this being ‘assisting copyright infringement’, just like The Pirate Bay itself. I assume this is a mistake and that they will remove the links.

Top ListWhile responding to the accusations, Nyheter24 said that the admins of The Pirate Bay have not been convicted of any illegal activity yet so there is no point of discussing the removal of links until they (admins) are found guilty. Though a few hours later the news site changed their stance and removed the links to those torrent pages. Now the links will take you to the front page of The Pirate Bay.

According to the chairman of Nyheter24 board, Douglas Roos:

We are removing the direct links since they may be illegal and it’s not our intention to challenge copyright law. However, half of the Swedish population downloads from the net and I’d love to have a partnership with The Pirate Bay.
